"The crowd at our Hill City, KS high school football game observed an object cross the sky from Southwest to Northeast this evening, Friday, October 13, 2000 at approximately 7:30 p.m. At first I thought it was a high flying aircraft with its landing light on, trailing a contrail. As it passed almost directly south of us, it separated into about five burning points, mainly white but some green hues. A "smoke trail" lingered for some time after the object passed. It took about five minutes to cross the entire sky. It appeared to burn out as it passed to the Northeast, well above the horizon. It did not appear to lose any altitude to speak of during the pass, although some of the "breakaway" pieces did seem to slow and drop slightly before "burning out." -- Alex Leslie, Friday, Oct. 13th, 2000
